Fred grew up in a single family home with his mother and two sisters. Food was sometimes a scarcity, but his mother seemed to always find a way to feed her growing family. Fred was a BIG boy and he continued to grow well above all of his friends throughout his middle and high school years. He excelled in all sports and was able to secure a full football scholarship to Georgia Southern University under the great Coach Erk Russell.

Fred played 10 years in the National Football League. In 1987 he was drafted as a Defensive End for the L.A. Rams. He went on to play for the Washington Redskins, where he won a Super Bowl, and again for the L.A./St. Louis Rams. He ended his professional football career with the New Orleans Saints. After football, Fred knew he needed to pursue other career opportunities in his “retirement”.

Fred started Fred Stokes Foods in 2006, and has watched it grow into a very successful food company!
